When doing work for our organizations, we need the right tools to help us be productive, efficient, and organized. There are a myriad of apps and tools to chose from, so which ones are the best to use?
In my work, I have lots of tools to use at my disposal from cameras, phones, computers, audio equipment, etc. But, I find that most of my work centers around no more than 10 items usually. In this post, I’ll share with you my top 10 tools I use every day.
Each of us is different so these things might vary for you. I find I get a little geeky when it comes to technology, gear, and “stuff”.
1. iPhone 6 plus
Of course I would start this off with my phone. It’s the powerhouse in my life because of so many things that I won’t be able to mention. Social Media, video, capturing ideas, responding to emails. The only thing I’m ashamed of is that I don’t have the newest model of the phone.
2. Apple AirPods
Everyday you’ll find me listening to podcasts, music, and even recording videos using the microphone in the tiny earbuds for social media. I’ve had them for a couple years now, but I still think it’s cool that these guys are wireless. I haven’t lost them yet.
3. MacBook Pro (Retina, 15inch, Mid 2014)
Daily you’ll see me in Asana working on tasks, in email responding to clients or other people, designing something for the web, writing a blogpost, updating social media, processing photos, or reading other blogs. In my opinion this was the best Mac Apple ever made.
4. My Full Focus Planner
Yesterday I wrote a full review of the Full Focus Planner so check it out for more info. I have the planner on my desk, in my messenger bag, or with me often, so that I’m always able to know what I need to do each day to be successful. It’s the one tool to rule them all.
5. My Timbuk2 Messenger Bag
My messenger bag I have was given to me by a friend of mine. It’s so versatile and can be used for a variety of purposes. I can use it as a laptop bag when going to meet clients or colleagues, and I can use it as a camera bag when on photoshoots. Lots of possibilities.
6. Brenthaven Briefcase
My messenger bag is my casual, everyday bag. Sometimes though I need to be a little more professional and that’s when I bring out my Brenthaven. It’s not as versatile, but when I get to deliver presentations or work offsite just with my computer, this is my go-to bag.
7. Moleskine Notebook
No matter where I’m at, I always like to have a notebook around. I’ve always been the guy to take really good notes in class and in meetings, so for me it’s necessary to always bring pen and paper to stay engaged. And, it’s always handy to have to write down ideas and thoughts for later.
8. Pilot Frixion Pens
I only use erasable ink with my Full Focus Planner. I do minimal color coding in my planner so I don’t have a lot of colors. They write well and have a good point to them. It’s a good erasable pen that stays with my planner at all times. For other writing, I always use a Pilot G-2 gel pen in .5 or .7.
9. WordPress
I am daily working in my website. My website is built on the WordPress content management system. Many of the websites you see use WordPress as their backend software to update pages, write blog posts, and manage online stores for e-commerce. It’s industry standard and free to use for all.
10. Social Warfare Plugin
On the top and bottom of this post you’ll see buttons to share this post on social media, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Email. I wanted to find a way to make it easy for posts to be shared by those who read it. Social Warfare is a plugin to my website that helps me do just that.
Conclusion
There are a lot of apps and tools and “stuff” that people use to get work done every day. My top tools are my iPhone, AirPods, MacBook Pro, Full Focus Planner, Timbuk2 Messenger Bag, Brenthaven Briefcase, Moleskine Notebook, Pilot Frixion Pens, WordPress, and Social Warfare Plugin.
